Drug Free Workplace Programs

In July 1997, the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) introduced a new incentive program designed to help employers establish a safer and more cost-effective workplace. If you want to join other employers in keeping employees safe and reduce the chance of an accident caused by a substance user, then contact Gateway Outreach Center and establish the appropriate training sessions for the Supervisors and employees. Gateway Outreach Center's staff will assist the employer with policy preparation, presenting the program to the staff, and assisting with the appropriate drug-testing program.

As an incentive, participating employers may receive technical support from BWC and may be eligible for a 6 percent to 20 percent discount on their workers' compensation premiums for up to five years. Overall, employers who implement the DFWP will provide greater protection for all employees, increase productivity, decrease accidents and the severity of accidents, reduce workers' compensation costs and use of medical benefits by substance users, and protect the employer's bottom line.
